The Timeless Shape of Happiness | Kouzou Sakai Illustration

Over the last 8 years, Coca-Cola has been giving away limited edition glasses to McDonald’s customers. Although the design on the glass has varied, the classic shape of the glass has remained the same.

In 2015, to celebrate the partnership between McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola will be giving away a collection of 6 glasses, all of the same shape, but with a different year inscribed into each one. Each year represents a different phase in the evolution of Coca-Cola.

To celebrate the timeless shape that is meant to represent Happiness, I’m invited by Kult3D Pte Ltd, together with 5 other artists to create an illustration that will surround the silhouette of the glass. The work is shown in 22 countries.

I made the illustration which let Japanese townscape of the 1960s and the imagination of people fuse. Painting of the future appeared in magazines of children in the 1960s. It was very popular contents in those days and is today’s retro-future. The 1960s was the times filled with power to dream.
